Program Overview
Our Education Program is the cornerstone of our work at Bertu Tesfa. We believe that education is the most powerful tool to break the cycle of poverty and create lasting change in children's lives.
Through our comprehensive approach, we provide free education from kindergarten through Grade 2, with plans to expand one grade level each year. Our goal is to eventually offer a complete primary education through Grade 8.
Beyond just classroom learning, we focus on holistic development, nurturing children's academic, social, and emotional growth in a supportive environment.

Abebe's Story
"When I first came to Bertu Tesfa, I couldn't read or write. My grandmother couldn't afford to send me to school. Now, I'm at the top of my class in mathematics and science. I want to be a doctor when I grow up so I can help sick children in my community."

What ages do you serve in your education program?
Our education program currently serves children from kindergarten (age 4-5) through Grade 2 (age 7-8). We are expanding by one grade level each year, with the goal of eventually providing education through Grade 8.
Do children need to pay any fees to attend your school?
No, our education program is completely free for all enrolled children. We provide education, school supplies, uniforms, and meals at no cost to the families we serve.
How do you select children for your education program?
We prioritize the most vulnerable children in the communities we serve, including orphans, children from single-parent households, and those living in extreme poverty. Our social workers conduct home visits and assessments to identify children with the greatest need.
What curriculum do you follow?
We follow the Ethiopian national curriculum, with additional enrichment in areas such as English language, computer skills, and creative arts. Our program meets all government educational standards while providing enhanced learning opportunities.
Can I visit the school if I sponsor a child?
Yes, sponsors are welcome to visit our school and meet their sponsored child. We arrange visits by appointment and have guidelines in place to ensure these interactions are positive and respectful for all involved.
